Hello Everyone

Welcome to Living Faithfully Today. I’m so glad you’re here. If you’re wondering about the biblical meaning of the number 8, you’ve come to the right place.

The Number Eight: A New Beginning

Since God rested from the work of creation on the seventh day, seven is a number of completion and rest. Eight therefore, is above completion. It’s the first day of the new week. It’s a new beginning. And today is just that, the eighth day of September, and I pray a new beginning in some way for each one reading this today.

Jesus and His Gift of a Resurrected Life

Did you know that Jesus came to give us a resurrected life? What does that mean? It means that He came to transform us from burdened victims to victorious overcomers, to reconcile us with God so that we can live a ressurected, eternal life with Him.

The bible tells us in John 10:10 that the thief (aka Satan or the Adversary) came to steal, kill, and destroy (our joy, peace, finances, relationships, belongings, physical bodies, and most importantly, our relationship with God) but Jesus came that we may have an abundant life. When we believe that Jesus died and was resurrected to life, and we are baptised in water (representing the Holy Spirit), we begin a new and resurrected life in Him. The word “born” is used eight times in Jesus’s conversation with Nicodemus, and the word “water” is used eight times in Jesus’s conversation with the woman at the well. Eight represents new beginnings and a resurrected life.

Eight New Things in the New Covenant

As pointed out by Troy Brewer, in this new covenant with God, Jesus gives us eight new things: a new song (Rev 5:9 and Psalm 96:1), a new name (Rev 2:17), a new heart (Ezekiel 18:31), a new spirit (Ezekiel 11:19), a new tongue (Acts 2:3-4), a new commandment (John 13:34), a new heaven, and a new earth (Rev 21:1).

Further Biblical Significance of Eight

What’s more? Eight people were saved on the ark (1 Peter 3:20) and on the eighth day, Hebrew boys were circumcized (Luke 1:59). But now we have a new covenant and Galatians 6:15 tells us what matters is being a new creation in Jesus Christ. Eight is a call to a new and resurrected life, filled with the Holy Spirit and power to do good works because Jesus is with us.

Prayer

Lord, release Your holy fire to consume every demonic altar erected against my life. Give me a new vision of what it means to live a resurrected life. Thank you that you sent your son, Jesus, to pay the price for my sins so that I may live an abundant, joy-filled life in your house forever. In Jesus Name, I pray. Amen
